The Background:

Razor is a latest action thriller directed by Ravi Babu. Starring Tanish, Inaya Sultana, Pranavi Manukonda, and Ravi Babu in key roles, the film revolves around political conspiracy, murder, and survival.

The Story:

Home Minister Kanakaraju plots to assassinate the Chief Minister Sitaramayya to grab power for himself. However, the entire crime gets recorded on a CCTV camera. Vishnu (Tanish), who runs a CCTV business, comes across the footage and decides to inform the police. Before he can do that, the Home Minister’s men brutally murder Vishnu and his wife (Inaya Sultana).

But Vishnu’s daughter Teju witnesses the killers. At the same time, Rudra (Ravi Babu), who works in a dog service business, arrives there to bathe Teju’s pet dog and unexpectedly takes responsibility for protecting the little girl. The rest of the story follows how Rudra tries to save Teju from the powerful Home Minister and his men.

The Good:

The core plot chosen by Ravi Babu is not particularly new. Telugu cinema has already explored several stories involving political conspiracies and assassination attempts on Chief Ministers. Still, the film manages to grab some attention initially as it jumps straight into the story from the very first scene. The action choreography is well planned.

The Bad

The action portions create a fair amount of impact in the initial stage. However, after the first major action episode, the fights fail to maintain the same intensity. The sequences involving Ravi Babu and his team searching for the video footage turn repetitive, slow, and routine, testing the audience’s patience rather than engaging them. Even Ravi Babu’s flashback episode fails to leave much impact and feels fairly ordinary.

The Worse

Though the danger surrounding the little girl is established within the first twenty minutes, the film never truly generates the tension or thrills expected from such a setup. The emotional stakes remain weak throughout. The climax fight also feels overstretched, and the final revelation exposing the villain unfolds in an entirely predictable manner.

Screentime:

With its boring narration and repetitive feel, Razor allows enough time for audiences to browse their mobile phones.

Takeaway:

The attempt to make a brutal action thriller, the way fights are designed, and Ravi Babu’s screen presence are the only positives for the film.

Bottom Line

Razor tries honestly to be a solid action thriller, but it loses momentum due to routine narration, lack of tension, and predictable storytelling.

Rating: 2/5
