The Background
Gaayapadda Simham is a comedy film directed by Kasyap Sreenivas, starring Tharun Bhascker, Faria Abdullah, and JD Chakravarthy. The movie was released on May 1, 2026.
The Story
The plot revolves around Darahas (Tharun Bhascker) and his dream of reaching Dallas. However, circumstances force him back to India. What follows is his bizarre plan to take revenge on Trump, with others getting entangled in his mission, including Brutal Dharma (JD Chakravarthy), a don posing as a logistics company owner, and Bhairav Das (Sree Vishnu), an IAS aspirant with a surprising family background.
The Good
Despite its wacky premise, the film manages to deliver humor in a few scenes. One standout moment is when a character amusingly questions police officers for holding a “success meet,” similar to film teams celebrating right after release. The officer’s witty reply that real-life heroes deserve to celebrate, too, lands well. Another highlight is the short but funny phone conversation between Sreenu Vaitla and his mother (played by Jhansi Laxmi). A couple of scenes involving the hero’s friends also resonate, as they echo the audience’s feelings directly.
The Bad
The first half begins decently but quickly shifts into an exaggerated track of the hero attempting to take revenge on the US President through black magic. These sequences fail to entertain and add to the tiresome feel. The connection between Darahas’s revenge plan and Dharma’s crime operations could have been intriguing, but the episodes lack impact and fall flat.
The Worse
The film seems inspired by recent real-life reports of deportations among students and professionals from Telugu states. While this idea could have been developed into a sharp satire, the narrative instead focuses on the hero’s revenge against Trump without building a cohesive storyline. The climax further derails with unnecessary spoofs of popular films like Salaar, which irritate rather than entertain.
Screentime
Rather than offering a compelling cinematic experience, the film ends up being a distraction, something viewers watch in between scrolling on their phones.
Takeaway
The core idea of linking US deportations to the hero’s revenge in a humorous way had potential, and a few scattered fun moments do work. But beyond that, the film struggles to engage.
Bottom Line
Gaayapadda Simham: Prekshakudini Gaayaparichindhi.
Rating: 1.75/5
