Disastrous Weekend for Telugu Theatres

Papam Prathap could not even collectt 1 Cr gross in 3 days. Thimmarajupalli TV could not generate minimum numbers. Naga Shaurya's Bad Boy Karthik is a washout at the box office.

This weekend turned out to be one of the most disappointing periods for theatres across the Telugu states. Despite multiple releases, the box office numbers were shockingly poor, raising serious concerns about the current theatrical business.

The Releases

On April 17, several films hit the screens:

  • Papam Prathap starring Thiruveer, backed by ETV Win
  • Thimmarajupalli TV, produced by Kiran Abbavaram
  • Bad Boy Karthik featuring Naga Shaurya
  • Dacoit continuing into its second weekend

Unfortunately, none of these films managed to make an impact, with all of them turning out to be outright failures at the box office.

The Numbers

The most alarming part is that the combined gross of all four films over the entire weekend failed to even cross double digits. This is particularly concerning given that summer is traditionally considered the most favorable season for theatrical releases.

The Bigger Picture

The lackluster performance highlights the growing struggle for mid-range films to attract audiences to theatres. With streaming platforms offering strong alternatives (Crazy cricket tournament IPL), the pressure on theatrical releases has never been higher.

Industry insiders believe that unless big-ticket films or strong content-driven projects arrive soon, the summer season may continue to reflect this worrying trend.
