After the Sankranthi season, the Telugu Film Industry has been struggling without a single notable release. The only big film to arrive was Pawan Kalyan’s Ustaad Bhagat Singh, which unfortunately turned out to be a major disaster at the box office. Since then, not one solid hit has managed to bring profits to producers or exhibitors.
Summer Wasted
The summer season, usually considered lucrative for Tollywood, has gone completely wasted. Scheduled films like Peddi, The Paradise, and Lenin were postponed, leaving theatres without fresh content. Expectations are now pinned on Ram Charan’s Peddi, slated to release on June 4, 2026, to revive the industry’s fortunes.
Theatres Struggling
The situation in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana has become dire. Most single screens in B & C centres are shutting down from today, while theatres in bigger towns are barely managing to run one or two shows a day.
Re-Releases Outperforming New Films
Interestingly, re-releases like Prabhas’ Darling are earning more than new small films, though limited to a few hundred screens. Even smaller or medium-budget films such as Maa Inti Bangaram have been postponed. Meanwhile, Nikhil’s Swayambhu was initially announced for a summer release, but there has been little buzz from the makers.
The Buzz
With the industry facing one of its toughest phases in recent years, all hopes now rest on Ram Charan’s Peddi to bring audiences back to theatres and restore momentum to Tollywood’s box office.
