Actor‑filmmaker SJ Suryah recently shared an interesting revelation about how he narrowly missed the chance to act in the critically acclaimed sports drama Lubber Pandhu. Directed by debutant Tamizharasan Pachamuthu, the 2024 Tamil‑language film became both a commercial success and a favorite among critics.

Suryah recalled, “Director Tamilarasan Pachamuthu narrated the story of Lubber Pandhu to me. I asked for a change, he corrected it, and brought it back. I again asked for another change, and he made it again. After that, I told him not to make any more changes, as it would spoil the script. I suggested he go ahead with someone else for the role (Dinesh’s role), and finally, it became a huge hit.”

Lubber Pandhu, which translates to “Rubber Ball”, explores intense rivalries and ego clashes in rural gully cricket. The film stars Harish Kalyan and Attakathi Dinesh in lead roles, alongside Sanjana Krishnamoorthy and Swasika. Its raw depiction of grassroots cricket and human emotions struck a chord with audiences, cementing its place as one of the standout Tamil films of 2024.

SJ Suryah’s candid admission highlights how even seasoned actors sometimes step away from projects that later turn into milestones. For fans, it’s a fascinating “what if” moment in Tamil cinema history.
