There was a time when the arrival of summer meant a festive atmosphere in Telugu theatres. Alongside star-hero blockbusters, even small and mid-range films enjoyed solid runs during this season. But in recent years, the scenario has changed drastically. Despite being one of the most promising periods for theatrical business, the Telugu box office is now running dry, with hardly any notable releases.
Recent Fridays Fail to Impress
Last Friday’s releases performed only moderately, failing to create any buzz. And this week looks even worse, Friday is shaping up to be another dry day. The only Telugu release is Gedela Raju Kakinada Taluka, while dubbed films like Vaazha 2 and the Michael Jackson biopic Michael are set to dominate screens.
A Wasted Season
It is surprising and disappointing to see that the summer season, once considered the most lucrative time for Telugu cinema, is being wasted without strong content. With no major Telugu films lined up, audiences are left with limited options, and theatres are struggling to recreate the vibrant atmosphere that summer once guaranteed.
