After Kuberaa, Sekhar Kammula is keen to work on the sequel to Happy Days.

Sekhar Kammula’s Happy Days (2007) is a cult classic Telugu musical coming-of-age drama that beautifully captured the four-year journey of eight engineering students. Released on October 2, 2007, the film became a massive commercial and critical success, winning six Filmfare Awards South and three Nandi Awards.

The film introduced several fresh talents who went on to build successful careers, including Tamannaah Bhatia, Nikhil Siddharth, and Varun Sandesh. Now, nearly two decades later, the latest buzz is that Sekhar Kammula is preparing to direct a sequel to Happy Days, reflecting the lifestyle and culture of today’s generation of students.

Kammula’s most recent directorial, Kuberaa, starring Dhanush and Nagarjuna, was a box-office hit, collecting over ₹100 crore. Reports suggest that the acclaimed filmmaker is currently busy scripting his upcoming projects, and one of them is said to be the much-awaited sequel to Happy Days.

The sequel is expected to be set in contemporary times, portraying modern youth culture and campus life. While the cast is likely to feature new faces, the film will retain the emotional depth and charm that made the original so memorable.

Though an official confirmation is yet to be made, the news of a sequel has already created excitement in film circles, with fans eager to see how Kammula reimagines the magic of Happy Days for a new generation.
