Director RJ Balaji has shared exciting insights about his upcoming film Karuppu(Veerabhadrudu in Telugu), starring Suriya and Trisha Krishnan. Speaking about how Trisha came on board, Balaji revealed that he was initially in talks to direct a separate project with her. Though that film didn’t materialize, the collaboration found new life in Karuppu, bringing her into this ambitious venture.
RJ Balaji on Suriya’s Transformation
Balaji expressed his admiration for Suriya, recalling his college days when he was captivated by films like Kaakha Kaakha, Pithamagan, and Ghajini. He noted that in recent years, Suriya has gravitated toward intense, serious roles in films such as Soorarai Pottru and Jai Bhim. With Karuppu, Balaji aims to showcase a different side of the star:
“I want to bring back the fun, dance, vibe, and emotional Suriya sir. He had some hesitation with certain scenes, but I broke that barrier. Both in terms of emotion and fun, he delivered a blast. The film will carry my unique touch.”
The Plotline of Karuppu
Balaji described Karuppu as a mass entertainer with a superhero twist.
- The story imagines a world in crisis, where a superhero rises to crush hardships, defeat evil, and restore goodness.
- The narrative blends action, emotion, and spectacle, promising a larger-than-life cinematic experience.
Balaji added that while watching the edit, he was struck by Suriya’s screen presence: “Suriya sir’s eyes and presence are outstanding. Even in a crowd of ten, he stands apart. In this space, no one can match him.”
What to Expect
With Trisha joining the cast and Suriya stepping into a vibrant, emotional role, Karuppu is shaping up to be a film that balances mass appeal with Balaji’s signature style. The director’s passion for bringing out a different dimension of Suriya suggests that fans can look forward to a refreshing mix of entertainment and heroism.
